The word itself means pain in muscles and fibrous tissue (ligaments and tendons). It is defined by generalised musculoskeletal pain and discomfort caused by gentle pressure. Stimuli which should not be painful are perceived as such. For example, I often claim that «my skin hurts», although fibromyalgia patients usually attend the doctor’s surgery stating that «everything hurts». Other typical symptoms are sleep disorders, anxiety, depression and, obviously, a state of exhaustion often disabling.
